Letter from the Chairman
Saturday 31st October 2009
What a lovely day - beautiful sunshine, very mild for the time of year, in fact quite warm, when our first walkers set off on the 10 mile walk. Andrew Horne, aged 10, Tommy Pickering, aged 10, accompanied by Neil Horne (now feeling 88 after the walk - his words not ours), Neil Pickering and Steve Pickering.
We arranged for these walkers to take part on Saturday 31st due to other commitments on Sunday 1 November. Did they know something the rest of us didn't?!?
Anyway, we think they all enjoyed themselves and looking at some of their photos we are sure they did.
Andrew Horne (the good looking one with the long blond hair) raised over £110 for the appeal which is a great effort.
Although we have no photographic evidence, we are assured that Andy Carroll completed the 10 miles in a record time - he ran it!! He had seen the weather forecast on TV and decided he wasn't going to suffer like the rest of us did on Sunday!
Sunday 1st November 2009
Force 10 gales, driving rain, local flooding - yes, just the right weather for a 10 mile sponsored walk. Every picture tells a story, they breed them 'tuff' in Farsley and all who walked the 10 miles can be proud that in such adverse conditions, most managed to complete the course.
The bacon and sausage breadcakes were certainly well received, provided by our ladies in the 1st XI catering/changing rooms (with thanks to Greenfield Bacon who supplied the bacon for us).
A very big thank you to all who took part - and of course the ladies. A great event which will raise much needed funds for the roof. Our estimate at the moment is that between £3000 - £3500 has been raised. Obviously we need to collect the money as soon as possible, but this is a fantastic effort and will help tremendously toward the cost of the roof.
