Farsley CC in the Pudsey Times
Natwest Cricket Force 2008
Farsley CC has been named one of the ECB's national showcase clubs for the 2008 Natwest Cricket Force event. This great opportunity will hopefully enable the club to improve its facilities and in particular build a new roof.
David Leighton (the ECB Club Programmes Manager) met with some members of the club on the 18th January, he had a discussion with the group detailing the basis of the event and then offered the opportunity to the club. Things have been moving rapidly since, 2 meeting have been held to discuss a plan. The club is aiming to put a new roof on the club. This is a big task but we are confident that we can achieve it if we have the support of all our members. David will be returning to the club on 14th February to meet with the rest of the members. Visit the ECB website to find out more click here.

Popular umpire and former President dies aged 82
One of the Bradford League's most respected umpires and a former President of Farsley has died. Ken Storr, 82, passed away at Leeds General Infirmary after an illness.
Ken officiated for 30 years until ill health forced his retirement two years ago. But even after he stopped officiating he was regularly seen watching Bradford League matches. He was a long-serving member of Farsley Cricket Club and worked tirelessly on our behalf. Club Chairman Ashley Metcalfe said: "Ken will be be sadly missed by a lot of people. He was a great character and was so enthusiastic. "Even when ill health forced him to stop umpiring he still retained his deep interest in the game and was still seen regularly at Farsley. "He was well liked by all those who knew him and he will be badly missed.”
Farsley 's sadness at death of Graham Roope
Farsley Chairman Ashley Metcalfe has paid tribute to his old team-mate Graham Roope who recently died while celebrating his 60th birthday in Grenada. The former Surrey and England batsman joined the Red Lane club shortly after ending his first class career and made a big impact both on and off the field. Metcalfe said: "He spent around ten years at the club and was a wonderful influence. He was a fine batsman and an excellent fielder. I don't think I have ever seen a better slip catcher than him. "Graham was instrumental in helping raise standards at our club. He had played at the highest level and passed on his knowledge to those around him. He helped juniors and seniors alike. "He was immensely popular at the club and after finishing as a first team player he stepped down to captain the second team. he will be sorely missed."
Metcalfe had seen Roope only days before he departed for his holiday in Grenada. "He looked fit and well and in spirits as normal. His death came as a stunning blow. "He was a person who had always seemed do healthy. He simply loved playing cricket and regularly turned out for the Lord's Taverners, Old England and Emmerdale teams. A lot of people are going to miss him."Roope played in 21 Test and eight One Day Internationals between 1973 and 1978. He scored 860 runs in Tests at 30.71 as well as holding 35 catches.
22/09/06 - An Extraordinary General Meeting was held at the club. The Executive Committee set out the proposals for changes to the structure of the club. The proposals are that a new general committee will be set up with two sub-committees responsible for the cricket section and the day to day running of the club. The general committee will be responsible for the finances of the club and the sub-committees will have to apply for these finances from the general committee. The constitution of the club will be altered and displayed before the AGM on 11th January 2007. At the AGM the official positions will be voted on and any member wishing to sit on the committee will be able to put their name forward.
The reasoning behind these changes is to enable the Cricket Club to apply for grants to enable improvements to the facilities at the club. Further information of this will be posted on the site.
